Street Restriping Work Starting May 21 Downtown
Alexandria, La. (May 15, 2019)— As part of the City of Alexandria’s plan to increase parking spaces in the downtown business district, crews will begin the process of restriping a number of streets starting Tuesday, May 21.
Streets affected in the first phase include Second Street, Fifth Street, Sixth Street, Foisy Street, DeSoto Street, Murray Street and Johnston Street.
As a result of the restriping, Second, Sixth and Foisy will be reconfigured to single-lane, one-way streets with parking on both sides. Fifth Street will convert from a two-way street to a one-way with parking on both sides. DeSoto Street will be a single-lane one-way as well. Murray and Johnston streets will get refreshed striping but will otherwise not be changed.
The roads will not be closed, but drivers should expect delays when workers are present and are advised to take alternate routes when possible. Officials estimate it will take three weeks to complete the project.
