Alexandria Human Relations Commission
Mission
The mission of the Alexandria Human Relations Commission is to promote unity, respect, and understanding; to eliminate discrimination against all individuals because of their race, age, sex, religion, disability, national origin, or sexual orientation.
AHRC operates as an advisory board in matters involving departments of the City of Alexandria, City officials, employees, agents, and their contacts with the citizens of the City of Alexandria.
History
Alexandria Human Relations Commission was established in 2000 as a public/private partnership dedicated to improving human relations among all citizens of Alexandria. AHRC consists of nine members appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Alexandria City Council, who each serve a three year term.
