Daryl Terry Named Public Safety Commissioner
Alexandria, La., (Feb. 11, 2019) — Mayor Jeff Hall has named retired Alexandria Police Capt. Daryl Terry as the new Public Safety Commissioner.
“I thought it wise to bring someone in with his experience and expertise,” said Mayor Hall. “He will oversee the police and fire strategic planning, budgeting process and day-to-day operations.”
Terry retired from APD after more than 33 years on the job where he had been the S.W.A.T. Commander as well as the Chief of the Criminal Investigative Bureau.
The Alexandria Public Safety Commissioner oversees the police and fire departments’ staff, programming and initiatives. The commissioner will help develop and operate programs in the areas of law enforcement, traffic safety, fire safety, emergency management and public safety information. The commissioner’s goal is to coordinate the functions and services of the city relating to the safety and convenience of its citizens.
“We have a relatively new command staff in our public safety functions,” said Terry. “I hope to help them improve community relations and set in motion Mayor Hall’s goals.”
