Southern Circuit Film "World's Largest"
7:00 p.m., Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center, 1202 Third Street, Alexandria
$5:00
The Arts Council of Central Louisiana presents a screening of the film, World’s Largest, at Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center, 1202 Third Street, in downtown Alexandria on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Co-Director, Amy Elliot will be present and following the conclusion of the film, she will be on hand to field any audience questions. This is the third of the six films that comprise the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers line-up for the Arts Council 2011-2012 Performing Arts Series.
Desperate for tourism, hundreds of small towns across the United States claim “world’s largest” things that include 15-foot fiberglass strawberries to 40-foot concrete pheasants. World’s Largest visits 58 such sites and profiles the community of Soap Lake, Washington and its five year struggle to build the world’s largest lava lamp. In documenting these roadside attractions, World’s Largest captures the changing, perhaps even vanishing, culture of small-town America.
A trailer for World’s Largest is available on the Arts Council of Central Louisiana website at www.louisiana-arts.org, along with information and trailers for each of the films featured in the Southern Circuit Tour #1.
Tickets for the film are $5 and may be purchased at the Performing Arts Center box office one hour prior to the screening, or in advance by phoning the Arts Council office at 318.443.4718.
The 2011-2012 Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers is a program of the non-profit regional arts organization, South Arts. The screenings of the Tour #1 films are funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Arts Council gratefully acknowledges Capital One Bank as the producing partner of the Film Series.
