Rock the Red 2016
City’s Rock the Red Kicks Into High Gear
Superslide, volleyball, hot air balloons, live music, and more
Alexandria, Louisiana— Break out your red, white, and blue, practice your patriotic songs, and come downtown to celebrate Independence Day at the city’s annual Rock the Red festivities this Saturday, July 2.
This year’s celebration is amped up and features some great activities. Beginning at 10 a.m. you can “Slide the City” on 500-‐feet of water slide starting at the top of the levee and sliding you right down Murray Street. The cost of the wet and wild ride is only $5 for unlimited rides for each three-‐hour period.
There will be music hosted by a DJ during the day and live music from 6 p.m. at the Alexandria Riverfront Amphitheatre until the grand fireworks display begins at dark.
Food and beverage vendors will be on hand in downtown and more live music is available beginning at 2 p.m. on stage near Tamp & Grind on Fourth Street.
Bring out some friends and play volleyball on the “beach.” There will be a sand court available for play in the Alexander Fulton mini-‐park.
And if that isn’t enough, you can get a view of downtown and the Red River from a hot air balloon. There will be two balloons on hand to give free tethered rides on the levee (weather permitting). The rides will begin around 6 p.m. and are on a first-‐come, first-‐served basis. If the weather holds the balloons will fly. The rides take 5-‐7 minutes each so please understand that time and number of riders is limited.
Bring the family, celebrate the day, and honor the U.S.A.
