Millie Mattered Recognition of International Overdose Awareness Da
The First Millie Mattered International Overdose Awareness Day, will be held at Alexandria City Park, on City Park Blvd. down from Bringhurst Stadium Friday, August 31st, beginning at 4 p.m. A portable wall will be featured for loved ones who may post pictures of loved ones whose lives were lost to overdose or who suffer from addiction.
This event is co-sponsored by Lilly Harvey, a mother who lost her daughter, Camille to an overdose and has pledged to make a difference in ending the opioid epidemic through her group Millie Mattered, along with the Alexandria Human Relations Commission and other community supporters.
Millie Mattered will be accepting photographs for placement on the moving wall beginning at 3 PM. Your photos will NOT be returned. Ceremonies will begin at 4 o’clock pm. Master of ceremony will be Lilly Harvey, mother of Lillie Camille “Millie” Harvey which sparked the movement of Millie Mattered, along with other public officials, and guest speakers who have experienced overdose and addiction first hand. At 6:30 p.m. there will be a groundbreaking ceremony for the placement of a bench donated to the City of Alexandria in memory of Lillie Camille Harvey. The groundbreaking ceremony will be followed by a glow of memorial bags for love ones whose lives were lost to this darkness that is plaguing our community. Everyone who has been affected by this epidemic is invited to attend and participate. It is recommended that you bring a lawn chair as there is no seating for this event.
The Millie Mattered movement is bringing awareness to overdose and closing the door on the stigma that prevents people from getting help for their addictions.
