7th Annual Le Tour de Bayou
Colorfully decorated bikes seem to be popping up throughout the area, which only means one thing: Le Tour de Bayou is quickly approaching. Friday, September 14th, the grounds of the Kent Plantation House become a whirl of activity with packet pickups and last minute registration beginning at 9AM to 5PM closing. This wonderful community event resumes early Saturday at 5:30AM, September 15, for last minute registration and packet pickup. Bikers begin to line the driveway at dawn starting the festivities off with the Blessing of the Bikes. Bike riders will be grouped into six event rides, from 101 to 10 miles, plus a 2-mile Family walk/run/bike. Each event group will have pacers and sweepers in the event any mechanical or medical emergencies may occur, so no one is left behind. Police officers will be at various crossing points, helping with traffic. Everyone should be mindful that Safety is First! Along each route SAG stations will be located with available water and nourishment for riders as they peddle through scenic farming communities, varied historical landscapes and topography.
Saturday morning, after the ride, waiting for you back at Kent House, rest and relaxation tents will be available for everyone, including refreshments, snacks and complimentary massages. An After-Ride Party will feature Louisiana music, plenty of food, drink, and the perfect place to relax and catch up with friends and family after a long ride! The House will be open for free tours in an open-house style. The open-hearth kitchen will be fired up with experts on hand to demonstrate baking with coals. There will be soap and candle making, butter churning, and quilting demonstrations.
