2019 George Rodrigue Scholarship Contest
In addition to the annual September Competition, AMoA will be exhibiting the Rodrigue Scholarship Contest winners’ exhibition. Each year the Rodrigue Foundation holds an art competition for juniors and seniors in high school throughout the state. Students enter work based on a theme, which was Cosmos this year. The entries are judged by art professionals throughout the state, including AMoA’s curator, Megan Valentine, from almost 600 entries down to the 17 finalists.
These finalists are then judged by a separate group of judges and scholarships are awarded at a reception in New Orleans. This year, the Rodrigue Foundation awarded $46,500 in scholarships and awards. Beyond the awards, these 17 works travel to museums and organizations around the state for exhibitions. This year, the Rodrigue Scholarship Art Contest will be on display at the Alexandria Museum of Art from July 5th through August 17th.
