AMoA: The Art of Joe Ray
A solo exhibition of paintings, sculptures, and photographs by artist Joe Ray (US,b.1944). The artist, who lives and works in Los Angeles, is a native of Alexandria, LA. Raised in Alexandria, Joe attended South Alexandria elementary school and Peabody Sr. high school, where he began painting and then received Louisiana state awards for his artwork. He then studied fine arts at the University of Southern Louisiana in Lafayette, then moved to Los Angeles in 1963. This exhibition is Joe Ray's homecoming, as an artist, to Alexandria where several generations of his family still reside. He will show paintings, sculpture, and photographs from his six-decade career. This includes early paintings (1960-62) made in Alexandria, contemporary paintings made for this exhibition, early cast resin sculpture from his ongoing 'Light and Space' series and selected abstract skyscapes from his ongoing 'nebula' series for which he is most recognized.
