Alexandria, La., (Sept. 3, 2021) — The City of Alexandria Animal Shelter is pitching in to help Hurricane Ida evacuees who had to relocate to facilities that do not allow their pets to stay with them. “We try to help out whenever we can during disaster evacuations,” said Alexandria Animal Shelter Superintendent Henry Wimbley. “Housing pets for these evacuees, we hope, helps relieve some stress because they know their animals are safe and being taken care of while they take care of all the other necessities.” The shelter will house evacuated pets free of charge until they can return to their...
