Council Meeting Minutes (Special Session) - 2010-10-14
PROCEEDINGS OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALEXANDRIA, LOUISIANA, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A SPECIAL MEETING HELD OCTOBER 14, 2010.
The Council of the City of Alexandria, Louisiana, met in special meeting session at its regular meeting place, on Tuesday, October 14, 2010 at 5:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers.
There were present the Honorable Roosevelt L. Johnson, Ed Larvadain, III, Jonathan D. Goins, Everett C. Hobbs, Harry B. Silver, Myron K. Lawson and Chuck Fowler. Also present was City Clerk Nancy L. Thiels.
The Council of the City of Alexandria, State of Louisiana, was duly convened as the governing authority of said City by the Honorable Roosevelt L. Johnson, who stated that the Council was ready for the transaction of business.
The first item on the agenda was to consider adoption of a resolution authorizing the confirmation of Tiffany Sanders to serve on the Alexandria Civil Service Commission.
A motion was made by Mr. Goins and seconded by Mr. Larvadain for discussion of the item.
Mr. President recognized Mr. Charles Johnson, City Attorney, who explained this item to the Council. Mr. Tommy Davenport, Jr., Attorney for the Alexandria Civil Service Commission was present to discuss this item with the Council. He stated that the Council had 30 days to vote on this appointment.
Mr. Johnson, City Attorney stated that Southern University faxed the letter to the Civil Service Commission (even though it went to the City Council office) and that Civil Service Director Pam Saurage didn’t inform the Council of the appointment until September 17. There was much discussion among council members. Mr. Larvadain made a motion to adjourn the meeting. However, Councilman Johnson stated that a motion had already been made for the question which was called for by Mr. Fowler and seconded by Mr. Silver.
Mr. Johnson called for a vote on the resolution which was moved by Mr. Goins and seconded by Mr. Larvadain. The vote resulted as follows:
YEAS: Goins, Lawson, Larvadain.
NAYS: Hobbs, Johnson, Silver, Fowler.
ABSENT: None.
The vote was 3 yeas, 4 nays, 0 absent and the motion failed.
There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting was adjourned.
