Alexandria Historic Preservation Commission
Alexandria Historic Preservation Commission
Appointed by the Mayor of Alexandria and confirmed by the Alexandria City Council in March 2006, the Alexandria Historic Preservation Commission (AHPC) is the City of Alexandria’s agency for historic preservation efforts. The AHPC encourages the preservation of historic structures within the City’s three local historic districts and of historic landmarks that lie outside of a local district, but within the city limits.
The AHPC promotes preservation in Alexandria by facilitating preservation activities such as historic preservation tax credit seminars, open house walking tours, and preservation education events, which are always free and open to the public. The AHPC is a valuable resource to historic property owners who seek design guidance for their historic structure. We believe that the preservation of our built environment enhances historic neighborhoods and fosters community spirit, improves and stabilizes property values, encourages tourism, and benefits the economy.
