Joe Betty Sterkx
President
As a realtor, Mrs. Sterkx has helped numerous homeowners in Alexandria’s Garden District buy and sell their property. She also brings technical preservation experience to the commission, as she and her husband have renovated numerous historic properties.
Damon Bernard
A native of New Orleans, Mr. Bernard is an active resident of the Alexandria Garden District and owner of the historic Bottle House.
Charlie Charrier
Mr. Charrier is an attorney and partner in the firm of Charrier & Charrier. As president of the Historical Association of Central Louisiana, he has been a leader and moving force in the cause of preservation in Alexandria for many years.
Shelley Johnson
Shelley Johnson is the owner of Mexi-cajun Seasoning, and a devoted resident of the Alexandria Garden District.
Veretta Garrison-Moller
Ms. Garrison-Moller is president and creative director of Veretta Art Inc. As a visual artist and “big picture” designer, Ms. Garrison-Moller brings a cohesive visual component to the commission’s projects.
Jonathan Stokes
Mr. Stokes is an attorney with the law firm of Gold, Weems, Bruser, Sues, and Rundell. He practices in the areas of general business law as well as commercial litigation. Before becoming an attorney, he taught history at Bolton High School and, prior to that, participated in a master's degree program at LSU in Baton Rouge with a focus in Early Modern European History. Mr. Stokes brings to the commission his passion for history and historic preservation and education.
Sarah Mason
AHPC Director
Sarah Mason was raised on historic Rosalie Plantation in central Louisiana. After studying anthropology during her undergraduate coursework, she conducted fieldwork in California, where she developed an interest in the preservation of historic architecture. She worked and volunteered for several institutions in New Orleans, including The Historic New Orleans Collection, Touro Infirmary Archives, the Preservation Resource Center, and Save Our Cemeteries. She holds a Master of Preservation Studies degree from Tulane University.
