Council Meeting Minutes (Special Session) - 2008-12-23
PROCEEDINGS OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALEXANDRIA, LOUISIANA, STATE OF LOUISIANA, TAKEN AT A SPECIAL MEETING HELD DECEMBER 23, 2008.
The Council of the City of Alexandria, Louisiana, met in special meeting session at its regular meeting place, on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 5:30 P.M. There were present the Honorable Everett C. Hobbs, Ed Larvadain, III, Chuck Fowler, Harry B. Silver, Roosevelt Johnson, Myron K. Lawson and Jonathan D. Goins. Also present were City Attorney Chuck Johnson, Chief Operating Officer Kay Michiels, Assistant City Attorney Trey Gist and City Clerk Nancy L. Thiels.
The Council of the City of Alexandria, State of Louisiana, was duly convened as the governing authority of said City by the Honorable Myron K. Lawson, who stated that the Council was ready for the transaction of business.
The President called the meeting to order. The invocation was pronounced by Reverend Joe Green with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Councilman Silver.
Mr. Chuck Johnson, City Attorney introduced Mike Marcotte, Assistant Director of Utilities who gave a presentation of facts and provided information necessary for an understanding concerning the proposed Power Supply Agreement and related documents associated with claims and disputes in the litigation styled City of Alexandria vs. Cleco Corporation No. 05-1121-A.
After the presentation from the Administration, the President asked for any public comments. They were as follows:
Former Mayor Carroll Lanier was asked to speak and inquired about rebates to the customers. Mr. Patrick LaCour asked about the details of the R.W. Report.
The President announced to the audience that a court reporter will be asked to transcribe these minutes from this meeting and also minutes from the December 30th meeting.
Ms. Sylvia Holt who lives in the Lower 3rd area was next recognized.
Mr. Marcotte explained several other issues to the audience.
Ms. Sandra Bright asked questions about the $29 million that the City would receive from Cleco for the rights of D.G. Hunter Generating Station.
Mr. Theodore Fountain from the Rapides Parish Police Jury, District B was recognized.
The Council thanked Mr. Marcotte and his staff for a good presentation.
After discussion from several council members, the Mayor was next recognized.
Reverend Joe Green and Reverend Leroy Johnson both asked questions concerning the return on utility bills.
There being no further business to come before the Council, on motion properly seconded, the meeting was adjourned at 6:45 P.M.
