Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day (HHWCD)
DATE & TIME: Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
PLACE: Alexandria City Complex at 2021 Industrial Park Rd, Alexandria, LA 71303.
PURPOSE: Household Hazardous Waste Collection reduces the amount of hazardous waste disposed in landfills and prevents discharge of toxic chemicals to the City’s wastewater system. Reducing hazardous waste in landfills and wastewater protects our drinking water resources (both groundwater and surface water sources) from toxic chemicals. Local streams, bayous, and the Red River are also safeguarded against pollution thereby increasing opportunities for recreation and leisure activities to the public. Participation in HHWCD avoids exposing City sanitation workers to dangerous liquid and solid wastes unseen in trash collection. Even pets and wildlife that may forage in curbside trash bags are protected from accidental poisoning when hazardous waste is brought to Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day.
