Streets Continue to Drain Following Extensive Rain
Alexandria, La., (April 7, 2019) — The City of Alexandria reports that all drainage pumps are running and the streets are continuing to drain following today’s rain event.
“We are carefully monitoring the weather and our streets, especially the Martin Park area,” said Merriell Lawson, director of public works. “The streets are the natural conduit for drainage, so don’t be alarmed when you see water in the streets. So far, it is draining well, and it is our hope that continues.”
Lawson noted the break in the rain has helped, but residents should stay off the streets as much as possible. If there is an obstruction blocking drainage or a concern about flooding, residents can contact 318-449-6243 to report it.
