City Continues to Restore Power Following Severe Weather
Alexandria, La. (June 24, 2019)— As of 3:30 p.m., there were fewer than 1,000 Alexandria Utility Systems customers without power, according to Michael Marcotte, AUS Director.
Following severe weather in the early morning hours today, about 2,300 customers lost power throughout the city due to broken poles, downed tree limbs and downed wires. The hardest hit areas were in the vicinity of Horseshoe Drive, Prescott Road, Heyman Lane and Texas Avenue.
Crews from the city as well as utility contractors and tree trimming services have been working throughout the day to restore power and clean up storm debris. Marcotte said he expects services will be restored today to all locations that are able to accept power.
The city asks customers to report outages by phone at (318) 473-1301 or online through the AlexConnects mobile application (app). Downed wires, poles and other equipment should be reported to the Electric Distribution Department at (318) 473-1301.
“Safety of our residents is key, and we appreciate your patience as we restore power,” said Alexandria Mayor Jeffrey Hall. Residents should avoid and report downed lines as they may still be energized and watch for crews and equipment are clearing debris and making repairs throughout the city.
