AlexWinterFête Named Cenla’s Choice Best Local Event
Alexandria, La. (Sept. 20, 2019) — The City of Alexandria’s AlexWinterFête was voted Best Local Event in the 2019 Cenla’s Choice Awards. An annual event presented by The Town Talk, Cenla’s Choice asks Central Louisiana residents to vote for their favorite events and businesses to determine the winners. The award was presented Thursday night during an awards party at the Alexandria Convention Center.
“We are very honored to receive this award, and it is especially meaningful because it was determined by a vote of local residents,” said Alexandria Mayor Jeffrey W. Hall. “It’s a tribute to the hard work of Jacques Roy’s administration and the City Council, which came up with the idea for the festival and built it to where it is now.”
Previously, AlexWinterFête received the 2017 Louie Award from the Louisiana Travel Association for Best Festival in the state. The event was also recognized in 2018 with a Bizzy Award from the Central Louisiana Regional Chamber of Commerce.
“There are a lot of really great events each year in Central Louisiana, so it is very humbling that area residents selected AlexWinterFête as their choice as the best local event,” said Thomas J. Nash, interim director of Community Services. “The previous administration set the bar high, and we are looking forward to the challenge this year of making the 2019 AlexWinterFête even better.”
AlexWinterFête will be held this year on Dec. 12-14. “Traditionally the event has been held on the first weekend of December, which has conflicted with the opening of the Natchitoches Festival of Lights,” Nash said. “We hope by making this adjustment, we will be able to attract even more vendors and larger crowds to AlexWinterFête. We’ll have all of the big things AlexWinterFête is known for, including ice skating and snow, and we plan to add some new surprises this year to make it even more enjoyable for families.”
