Bolton Avenue Community Center Shelter Opens
Alexandria, La. (Dec. 17, 2019)— The City of Alexandria has opened Bolton Avenue Community Center as a shelter for residents, according to Alexandria Utility Systems Director Michael Marcotte. Power crews are continuing to work on restoration, and we expect to have all but about 20 customers’ power back on tonight.
“While our employees and contractors have worked long hours for the last two days, we may not be able to restore power to all customers this evening, and if we are able to restore power, it will be late today,” said Mayor Jeffrey W. Hall. “As temperatures drop this evening, residents living in Alexandria may want to take advantage of our temporary shelter at the Bolton Avenue Community Center.”
The Bolton Avenue Community Center is located at 315 Bolton Ave. The Red Cross will open it by 6 p.m. for those families impacted by the storm and remain open until full power is restored.
City and contract utility workers have completed restoration work around Enterprise, Woodlawn, Sabine, LaSalle streets. These crews are now moving to work on a concentrated effort on Highway 28 West.
“Crews plan to get as much done as possible the in St. Andrews and John Allison areas this evening,” said Marcotte. “It will be late in the evening if power is returned at all to these areas. The crews will continue work as long as it is safe for them to do so.”
In addition, there may be some reconnects (people who had to repair damage before being able to accept power) that may not happen today.
“We are grateful for the patience of our residents, and we are working hard to restore power to all customers as quickly and safely as possible,” said Mayor Hall.
If your home sustained damage it may require inspection before service can be restored.
Residents are reminded to avoid downed lines as they may still be energized.
Customers are asked to report downed trees, trees on power lines, debris blocking roadways and outages online through the AlexConnects app. Downed wires, poles and other equipment should be reported to the Electric Distribution Department at (318) 473-1301.
