Gas outage along Rapides Avenue
Alexandria, La. (June 4, 2019) — Crews from the City of Alexandria Utility Department are working to address a natural gas service outage along Rapides Avenue. The outage affects approximately 300 gas customers in an area between Monroe Street, Essie Street, Chester Street, and Rapides Avenue. Customers along Webster and Bentley Streets are also affected. There is no estimate at this time as to how long service will be interrupted.
Director of Utilities Michael P. Marcotte explained crews were working to repair a leaking valve in the Chester Street area when the outage occurred. “The safety of our customers is our primary concern, and our workers will take every precaution to ensure the issue is safely resolved,” Marcotte said. Crews will go door-to-door to ensure gas services are off at all properties in the affected area. Once repairs are made, they will go door-to-door to restore service, which will require that someone is home to ensure service is properly restored.
“We regret the interruption in service and we understand the inconvenience of someone having to be present in order for us to restore service, but it is imperative that we follow all of our safety procedures,” Marcotte explained.
Residents in the affected area will be contacted by a uniformed City of Alexandria Gas Department employee who will assist them in ensuring gas service to the home has been safely restored. If City crews are unable to make contact with the homeowner, crews will leave a red door hanger which provides instructions for requesting service to be restored. There will be no charge to the customer for the City to restore a customer’s service.
