(April 29, 2022) — A party atmosphere filled downtown Alexandria Friday night as musicians performed, patrons browsed rows of arts and craft vendors and an illuminated procession of artists weaved their way through the crowd at Alex RiverFete. Alexandria, La. (April 27, 2022) — Volunteers working across the City of Alexandria reported collecting 54 bags of trash as an estimated 55 volunteers cleaned roughly 9.5 miles of roadways, drainage bayous and neighborhood areas as part of the Citywide Cleanup Day Saturday. “It was great to see so many people from all parts of town working together to beautify our home,” said Alexandria Mayor Jeff Hall. “We had children, business leaders, grandparents – everybody coming together for the betterment of our community. (April 7, 2022) — The Alexandria Zoo has been awarded $42,316 from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) under the Endangered Species COVID-19 Relief program, funded by the American Rescue Plan. “The Alexandria Zoo was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic as the facility was ordered closed for a period and then had to limit the number of visitors for more than a year, which significantly impacted revenue. Alexandria, La. (March 30, 2022) — City of Alexandria Utility System crews responded to scattered power outages from damaging winds associated with a strong line of storms that moved through Alexandria this afternoon. The bulk of outages were along Louisiana Highway 28 West in the vicinity of Holy Savior Menard Central High School and in the Martin Park area. Approximately 2,500 customers lost power at some point during the storm which brought winds in excess of 50 mph. All customers who can take power are expected to be restored by sundown.
