February 22: Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers: Eating Alabama, Hearn Stage, 7p.m. Sponsored by Arts Council ofCentral Louisiana. A young couple returns home toAlabama to eat the way their grandparents did, locally and seasonally. They soon realize that nearly everything about the food system has changed since their ancestors had farmed. Made possible by a grant from South Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. February 1: Opening Reception Black History Month Art Exhibit, Kent Plantation House, 4-6p.m. Art exhibit with three local artists showcasing their work on African Culture and Louisiana lifestyles. Come meet the artists and discuss the art while enjoying refreshments, silent auction and door prizes. January 24: Lecture: “Richard Dempsey’s Modernism: Art, Travel and Identity Construction in Mid-20th Century America,” Alexandria Museum of Art, 6p.m. Dr. Mora J. Beauchamp-Byrd, Professor of Art History at Xavier University, will examine Richard Dempsey’s prolific body of abstractions, charting how his work had been shaped by extensive travels and will also consider the artist’s engagement with the Washington D.C. based “Little Paris Studio” founded in 1946.
