A CHORAL COLLAGE
RED RIVER CHORALE PRESENTS “A CHORAL COLLAGE”
“Collage”: …the combining of existing artistic works, the end result of which is, itself, a work of art. On Thursday evening, March 21, 2024, at 7:30 P.M., the Red River Chorale will present its third concert of the season, “A Choral Collage,” at St. James Episcopal Church in Alexandria.
The Chorale will present a montage of sixteen short classic selections, each in its original language. They span nearly 500 years, beginning in the 1500’s with a familiar work by Thomas Tallis, “If Ye Love Me,” and ending with a charming 21st-century composition by Eric Whitacre, “This Marriage.” Representing the centuries between and showcasing the classic musical styles of this broad swath of musical history are short pieces by the following composers: Giovanni Palestrina, Carlo Gesualdo, Henry Purcell, Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn, Giuseppe Verdi, Anton Bruckner, Joseph Rhineberger, Sergei Rachmaninov, Carl Orff, Randall Thompson, and Moses Hogan.
The result is a richly woven tapestry, indeed a musical collage of the finest quality…a work of art. Immerse yourself for an hour in the beauty of the past; you’ll find yourself wishing for more.
Tickets for “A Choral Collage” are $15 for adults and $5 for students. They are available now online at redriverchorale.com, and they will be available at the door.
