The Alexandria Fire Department announces that during the month of June, the Fire Department will be inspecting the fire hydrants in our city. Fire crews will be out Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. until all of the 2,576 hydrants are inspected. The inspection involves removing all caps and lubricating the threads as well as flowing water to ensure that each hydrant is operating correctly.This annual testing is essential to maintain the community's Class 2 Public Protection Classification from the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana and to ensure that hydrants are...

The Alexandria Police Department (APD) made two arrest this week in two separate incidents for Illegal Possession of Firearms. On Wednesday, May 24, 2023, the Alexandria Police Department conducted an investigation into a report of an illegal firearm. During the course of the investigation, officers located Shaheem M. White, a convicted felon, in possession of an illegal firearm. He was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center and charged with Unlawful Handling of Machine Gun, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Aggravated Resisting of an Officer. At approximately 12:08 PM, the Alexandria Fire Department was dispatched to the 1800 Block of Mason Street, in reference to a fully involved building fire. The first unit arrived on the scene within two minutes of the initial alarm time. A full complement of units were on scene within six minutes. AFD dispatched three engine companies, an aerial company, two medical units, one district chiefs, and an investigative unit. Alexandria, LA (05/15/2023)On Monday, May 15, 2023, a report was filed with the Alexandria Police Department in regard to an incident that occurred on Saturday, May 13, 2023, in the Bocage Subdivision. A resident said that her dog got out of her fenced yard and when it returned, she noticed it was injured from possibly being shot with a BB gun. The resident took the dog to a local vet where it expired. (Alexandria, Louisiana) UPDATE – On May 16, 2023, at 12:19 A.M., Alexandria Police Department patrol officers responded to 3205 MacArthur Drive, Academy Sporting Goods. Upon arrival, officers located glass breakage indicating forced entry. (Alexandria, Louisiana) On Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 12:40 A.M. the Alexandria Police Department responded to a call for service to assist Acadian Ambulance with a deceased person at Dallas Avenue and Cypress Street. Upon investigation the body of a thirty-year-old white male was identified. There were no apparent signs of foul play and an autopsy is pending.
