Alexandria, La. (June 24, 2019)— As of 3:30 p.m., there were fewer than 1,000 Alexandria Utility Systems customers without power, according to Michael Marcotte, AUS Director. Following severe weather in the early morning hours today, about 2,300 customers lost power throughout the city due to broken poles, downed tree limbs and downed wires. Alexandria, La. (June 4, 2019) — Crews from the City of Alexandria Utility Department are working to address a natural gas service outage along Rapides Avenue. The outage affects approximately 300 gas customers in an area between Monroe Street, Essie Street, Chester Street, and Rapides Avenue. Customers along Webster and Bentley Streets are also affected. Alexandria, La. (May 22, 2019)—The City of Alexandria Customer Service Office, City Hall and other city offices and departments will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2019, in observance of Memorial Day.
ATRANS bus service will be closed Monday, May 27, and resume operation on Tuesday, May 28.
The sanitation schedule will run as follows: Monday’s garbage will be collected on Tuesday, May 28, and Tuesday’s garbage will be collected on Wednesday, May 29. Regular garbage collection schedule resumes on Thursday, May 30.

(May 15, 2019)— As part of the City of Alexandria’s plan to increase parking spaces in the downtown business district, crews will begin the process of restriping a number of streets starting Tuesday, May 21. Streets affected in the first phase include Second Street, Fifth Street, Sixth Street, Foisy Street, DeSoto Street, Murray Street and Johnston Street. (May 14, 2019)— Officers from the Alexandria Police Department joined representatives of numerous other area law enforcement agencies at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Rapides Parish Courthouse for the 2019 Annual Law Enforcement Memorial. Alexandria Police Chief Jerrod King presided over the somber tribute to fallen law enforcement officers. In 2018, 163 officers lost their lives nationally, King said. The City of Alexandria’s Wastewater Department will be making repairs.
