(July 30, 2019) — A severe thunderstorm that dumped more than 4.5 inches of rain Tuesday morning caused widespread street flooding as well as a power outage that affected nearly half of the city’s utility customers. The City of Alexandria experienced 3.9 inches of rain in just over an hour.
Water is subsiding, however, the City of Alexandria urges drivers to stay off the roads and out of the way of first responders and streets and utility crews.

Alexandria, La. (July 30, 2019) — The City of Alexandria is experiencing flooding in several areas. Workers are erecting barricades where possible. The pumps are fully operational yet some homes have taken on water due to flash flooding.
ATrans is not running at this time, but will begin again on major thoroughfares that are not flooded as soon as is safely possible. Other buses are being set aside for use if needed for evacuation.

However, while we have made some repairs to restore power, we are still assessing damage. Many areas of the city are still without power.
Some low-lying areas are experiencing flash flooding. Please avoid driving through flooded streets. Residents are urged to stay off the roads if possible.

Alexandria, La. (July 25, 2019) — A total of 54 amateur boxers from four states competed July 20 in the City of Alexandria Boxing Club Tri-State Boxing Showdown, a USA Boxing sanctioned event held at the Bolton Avenue Community Center.
