Alexandria, La., (Aug. 13, 2019) — The City of Alexandria will hold a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at Frank O. Hunter Park, 2399 Willow Glen Road, to officially name the stadium in honor of long-time Coach Wardell Ballentine. The late Coach Ballentine worked coaching at several schools in Rapides Parish — Lincoln Road Elementary School, Alexandria Junior High School and Jones Street Junior High School. (Aug. 2, 2019) — The City of Alexandria received a 2019 Lieutenant Governor’s Beautification Award Friday in recognition of the City’s efforts in supporting a clean and green community. Alexandria, La. (July 30, 2019) — A severe thunderstorm that dumped more than 4.5 inches of rain Tuesday morning caused widespread street flooding as well as a power outage that affected nearly half of the city’s utility customers. As torrential rainfall fell in the city, major roads including Jackson Street Extension and portions of Texas Avenue and Lee Street became impassable. Alexandria, La. (July 30, 2019) — ATrans is resuming service on major thoroughfares that are not flooded.
The City of Alexandria experienced 3.9 inches of rain in just over an hour.
Water is subsiding, however, the City of Alexandria urges drivers to stay off the roads and out of the way of first responders and streets and utility crews.

Bolton Community Center Open as an Emergency Shelter
Alexandria, La. (July 30, 2019) — The City of Alexandria is experiencing flooding in several areas. Workers are erecting barricades where possible. The pumps are fully operational yet some homes have taken on water due to flash flooding.
ATrans is not running at this time, but will begin again on major thoroughfares that are not flooded as soon as is safely possible. Other buses are being set aside for use if needed for evacuation.

Alexandria, La. (July 30, 2019) — Alexandria Utility Systems are currently restoring a substation power outage caused by lightning and some citizens are gettting power back. However, while we have made some repairs to restore power, we are still assessing damage. Many areas of the city are still without power.
Some low-lying areas are experiencing flash flooding. Please avoid driving through flooded streets. Residents are urged to stay off the roads if possible.

Alexandria, La. (July 30, 2019) — Some Alexandria residents are experiencing power outages due to lightning strikes during this recent storm.
Alexandria Utility Systems crews are working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power, according to AUS Director Michael Marcotte. The damage is currently being assessed.

Alexandria, La. (July 25, 2019) — A total of 54 amateur boxers from four states competed July 20 in the City of Alexandria Boxing Club Tri-State Boxing Showdown, a USA Boxing sanctioned event held at the Bolton Avenue Community Center.
