(July 11, 2019)— Community cleanups scheduled Saturday for the Woodside and South Alexandria Neighborhood Watch areas have been cancelled due to rainfall expected in Alexandria from Tropical Storm Barry, according to SafeAlex Director the Rev. Randy Harris. Though the cleanups will not take place, neighbors and citizens can help by making sure street drains are clear and that debris is not placed on the streets until the storm passes. Alexandria, La. (July 11, 2019)— Alexandria Utilities Service restored power to 85 residents as of 6 p.m. due to early bands of weather in the area. We expect additional outages overnight. As the weather moves in, residents should remain at home and off the streets. Alexandria Police Department worked an average of one accident per hour Saturday.The City has prepared and continues to monitor the weather. (July 10, 2019)—Current forecasts from the National Weather Service indicate a potential tropical storm or Category 1 hurricane is expected to form in the Gulf of Mexico with possible landfall this weekend along the Louisiana coast. Most models show the storm approaching central Louisiana Friday afternoon with the strongest impacts expected on Saturday and Sunday. Alexandria, La. (July 1, 2019) — Workers with the City of Alexandria Public Works Department will begin spraying for mosquito control starting today. Crews will spray different zones in the city two nights per week, with the complete city covered every two weeks. The spraying program will target both mosquito larvae and adult mosquitos. During the day, bodies of water will be treated with larvicide, which prevents hatching of mosquitos.
