BOIL ADVISORY ISSUED FOR

Alexandria, Louisiana— Repairs to an 8 inch water main located behind Walmart on hwy. 28 has resulted in the need for a boil water advisory, according to Barrett Dezendorf, Superintendent Water Operations. Because water pressure was lost during the repair process, the water in the affected area may have been compromised. On Sunday, July 28, 2024, at approximately 2:35 PM the Alexandria Police Department responded to the 2200 block of West Sycamore Street in reference to a shooting. Responding officers found 33-year-old Shawn Harper of Pineville LA and 23-year-old Kay’irian Barber of Alexandria LA deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. A third person sustained gunshot wounds and is in critical condition at a local hospital. This is currently an ongoing investigation. Alexandria, LA (07/11/2024) The Alexandria Fire Department responded to 515 MacArthur Drive at 8:02 PM for an alarm activation in reference to smoke emitting from a roof mounted air conditioning unit. The first unit arrived on the scene within four minutes of the initial alarm. AFD dispatched three engine companies, a medical unit, and two chief units. It was determined that the smoke was water mist from a malfunctioning chiller.

The Alexandria Fire Department responded to 4708 Christopher Place at 8:13 PM for a reported house fire. The first unit arrived on the scene within four minutes of the initial alarm. A full complement of units were on scene within five minutes. AFD dispatched three engine companies, one aerial company, a medical unit, one district chief unit, and a fire investigative unit. The fire was brought under control within thirty-seven minutes and there were no injuries reported. Investigators have determined the fire was caused by a lighting strike.

The Alexandria Fire Department responded to 6426 Windy Oaks at 8:32 PM for a reported house fire. The first unit arrived on the scene within six minutes of the initial alarm. A full complement of units were on scene within eight minutes. AFD dispatched two engine companies, one aerial company, a medical unit, one district chief unit, and a fire investigative unit. The fire was brought under control within forty-one minutes and there were no injuries reported. Investigators have determined the fire was caused by a lighting strike.
